I was just looking at Caitlin's painting again and thinking over why-oh-why I'm so drawn in by it.  Not to over-simplify her intentions or the meaning behind the piece (which I also dig, by the way), but my first reaction is always to color.  And when it comes to color... turquoises, watery blues and minty greens always draw me in.  The rest of the image or details of an item or artwork are what keep my interest - initially though, it's the hue and texture that capture me.  The antique cabinet on my back porch is a perfect example of this: Color - Check, Patina - CHECK + CHECK... then I take in the shape, details (check out that cutesy handle), etc.  Hmm, makes me wonder what makes ya'll fall in love with something...

The duds for a day out and about... with a few changes along the way.  Pants were swapped for shorts, the cardi was definitely ditched, and the entire ensemble became a bathing suit at some point because it was a HOT one today.  Hip Hip!  The day was good: coffee with friends from far away places, down-time in the sunshine, a bit of work here and there, and topped 'er off with an evening spent with friends out in the country, soaking up all of the goodness of warm weather amongst the horses and other farm critters...

Summer is here.

Steel Grey & Tulle Dress

What's going on with me and the whole black & white photo scene these days?!  I dunno.  Maybe it's the setting that inspires the non-color photos... Anyway.  This is another from the shoot with Jenna.  I really will share some full length photos yet - I just don't want to give too much away before we have a chance to shoot there one more time with TWO REALLY AWESOME PHOTOGRAPHERS.  Soon.

This week is going to be a wee bit on the crazy side.  The good kind of crazy.  There are a couple of items still needing to be stitched together, friends visiting from far far away, outfits to coordinate and locations to scout for the shoot with the aforementioned awesome photographers,  haircuts, meetings with academic advisors, and on and on.

BUT.

At the end of it all - Friday marks the beginning of a long weekend around here and I plan on having a very fun and festive little Canada Day to kick it all off!

So, until then.  Coffee.  And. Go.

- Catching sunshine and iced lattes in the backyard with Miss Jenna

- Supper on my porch

- A visit with friends and snuggles with both their brand new baby and her sweet pea of a big sister

- A good run and a good workout

- Um.  Ice.  Cream.

I'm not sure tomorrow can even compare, but you can bet that I'm gonna try : )

Well HELLO Friday!  Where have you been all my life?!

I started the day off by taking some grad pics for a friend's family - followed by copious amounts of Saturday-style chores (washing the car, cleaning, groceries, etc)... SO, now that the weekend is here there's only (fun) work and play to think about.  The last couple of skirts and dresses are cut and ready to be stitched together - hurray!  Otherwise, my inner gardener is lookin' for some serious sunshine this weekend.

This is one MINTY ensemble. 

The sun came out and the day was gorgeous... so of course after working extra-much on those icky rainy days earlier in the week I just had to enjoy the outdoors this afternoon.  Sewing can happen after dark.  In fact, it's much easier to focus when I'm not distracted by sunshine, warm weather and friendly friends.  Working after the rest of the neighbourhood is in bed is just fine with me : )

new.OLD

I was PUMPED to head back to my new (but really VERY old) favorite setting for a photo shoot last night!   I also had my very favorite model-y friend Jenna in-tow to sweeten the deal - we had so much fun, because we just always do.  It was a wild and stormy night out in the world, but we packed up the car, grabbed a couple of coffees and hit the road anyway.  We barely made it out of there before it started just POURING rain.  
The mission was successful:

*The first pic is just a test shot... Wow. 

*The second photo is an actual crack in an actual wall with an actual heart-shaped water spot next to it.  Perfect, hey?!  Yip, I'm tellin' ya, this wall and I are pretty much meant to be together (TRUE.LOVE, obviously).
It's super humid and um, with a 90% chance of rain I'm thinking I'll be perfectly content to grab a latte and photo edit the day away!

project.MAKEOVER

Last week I mentioned that I spent alllll of my waking hours outdoors on the weekend, and that I had done a wee makeover on the back porch... Well folks, here it is.  I used a lot of my existing decorative goodies, added some wood tile flooring, a new door mat and moved some of my indoor tropicals out to green things up a little.  It's kinda incredible how much the flooring changes the whole porch - it just looks sooo much cleaner than that ratty old 'carpet' ever could.  Mmm, I do love the outdoor months.  

Today is gonna be a crazy-busy office day... SO much time will be spent at the computer.  My incentive to pound through it all - a lovely couple of sewing days to follow (er, and nights if the weather allows for some photo shoots during daylight hours).

Clearly coffee will be happening.  Um, NOW : )

A casual lil' get-up for a day of shopping with the long-lost sister... I guess she's not so lost any more.  From now on, I'll call her the 'recently found sister.'  We were both exhausted from two verrrry long hours of shuffling through Forever 21... the mission was successful, and the exhaustion was quickly cured by copious amounts of caffeine - A big thank you to the lovely baristas at both the Polo Park and Kenaston Starbucks locations : )

Off for a walk and then it's supps with the extended family tonight.  Sometimes a spontaneous day off is just the best RE.FRESH you can get!  (Although, the contents of the email inbox is haunting the corners of my brain a little - if I'm being perfectly honest).
