poppies.art

After a renovation and a whole host of other shifts and transitions in life, there are canvases strewn about my dining room once again.
And it feels just dandy... like home.
*happy sigh*

Marni.LuHu.Designs

On a lead from the stylish Miss Des of Paper Airplanes and Desirae Samantha, I popped in to visit a new shop in downtown Morden while out on errands this morning.  I connected with this shop instantly, and not just because it's the new home to a sweet vintage couch that was mine once upon a time - although this does seem like one of those 'signs from the universe' (if you're so-inclined)...  Marni LuHu Designs seems to me the perfect fit for our quaint little town.  Its unique collection of jewelry, and other handmade items is both eclectic and wonderful.  You can find out more about the company, and its lovely owner, Marla, on the website: www.marniluhu.com or stop in, and pay a visit to 275 Stephen Street.
Wishing you at Marni LuHu the best of luck in your newest location!

--- I shopped with a 'one for you, one for me' mentality today - the top pair are mine, and I picked up the second pair for my nautical-loving lil' sister ---

Old, New, Borrowed, Blue.

Wanted to share a recent post I made for The Southern Suite with y'all... Enjoy!

Something old, something new
Something borrowed, something blue
And a silver sixpence in her shoe.

While certain traditions - especially wedding-related ones - can often seem played-out, there is always a way to execute it well!  The tradition of a bride wearing something old, new, borrowed, and blue is believed to have its roots in Victorian era England, and the variety of interpretations is abundant.  All in all, the general idea is that each of the items symbolizes an aspect or quality of marriage, and serves both as a reminder, and as a wish of good fortune for the bride.
(Is your inner historian craving more on the backstory?  If so, check out this simple explanation of the saying.)
The following is my interpretation of a tradition gone right:

 ... a stunning vintage gown...

... a new clutch (take your pick: shiny, or sparkly, or shiny and sparkly)...

... a pretty comb (probably borrowed from that friend who always looks pulled together due to *just-the-right* accessories - you know the one)...

...and a perfectly gorgeous (blue-ish) engagement ring.

A new take on a tired old, often-borrowed, blue-hued adage - totally worth a 2nd (or 842nd) thought!

WANTED: puddles

The puddle-jumpers and I have been good and ready for spring for quite some time now... A new season alllll around please!  The only mud I've found thus far appears to be on my entrance floor (how is that possible?)
So.  If you see any worthy roadside lakes, please notify me at your earliest convenience - so that I may dirty my houndstooth rubbers and get on with it.
IMPATIENT :)

Whimsical.Wedding.I

While I loved the Organic shoot, especially for fall, I am always.always drawn to pretty, pearly colors and light, airy settings.  Happening upon rows and rows of draping willows while scouting shoot locations was pure luck.  The whimsical 'park' look inspired a table set with the china I just never seem to use, and pretty, homespun napkin rings, table runners and hair pieces...
The pics above are just a taste, I'll be sharing another round shortly.  For now, visit the other Southern Suite vendors below for more:

Organic.Wedding

The gorgeous pics by Lani Elias (above) and Jack and Ruby Photography (below) are from the Southern Suite Perfectly Set Contest held this summer.
The old adage "It takes a village..." certainly seems to apply to weddings as well, and really is the premise behind the Southern Suite collective.  The Suite is a group of likeminded local talent; each offering a fabulous creative product or service to make 'the total package.'  After determining a 'look' for each of the shoots ("Organic" for the first shoot), all of the vendors used the theme to inspire their contribution to the shoot.
I had an amazing experience choosing the shoot locations, styling and coordinating the shoot, and creating the bride's headpiece.  The other Southern Suite artists include  - flowers and styling by Bloom / stationery by Paper Airplanes / Makeup by GLO Makeup Studios Hair by Shear Bliss Salon and Day Spa and Photography by Lani Elias Fine Art Photography and Jack & Ruby Photography.

Stay tuned for pics from the "Whimsical" theme shoot next week!
Happy Friday, and Happy Happy Weekend ya'll!
